Since this version the app signs in with an account instead of an SSH key. Already using it with a key? Update, then sign in under Settings › Relay account with the address Steef has for you. New here? Ask for an account below.

Retrieving weather and current models directly from the meteorological services is slow and cumbersome, and some of them require registration and API keys. We have created a relay that retrieves, updates, cuts to size, compresses and then provides the models to the app. Using the relay is vastly faster and easier. It needs an account.
Install instructions
Mac
Do these steps once, in this order.
Download and unpack
- Click Mac (Apple silicon), or Mac (Intel) on a Mac with an Intel processor (it needs macOS 13.5 or newer). Not sure which you have? Apple menu › About This Mac says Chip (Apple) or Processor (Intel).
- Open your Downloads folder. Safari usually unzips the file by itself; otherwise double-click the zip.
- Open the new WeatherRouting folder.
1. Install
- Double-click Install.
- The Mac says it cannot check the file. Click Done (or OK).
- Open System Settings › Privacy & Security. Scroll down. Click Open Anyway next to "Install". Type your password.
- Click Open. A window says "WeatherRouting is installed". Close it.
If the Mac asks whether "Terminal" may access files in a folder (Downloads, Desktop or Documents), click Allow (or OK). Install needs it.
On an older Mac: right-click Install, choose Open, then Open again.
Install puts WeatherRouting in your own user folder: after that you can delete the unpacked folder and the zip.
2. Sign in
- Start WeatherRouting (step 3) and open Settings › Relay account.
- Type your mail address and press Send code.
- Type the code from the mail. Your account must exist first: ask for one below.
The relay keeps a record of what you download (which models, how much and roughly where), so Steef can see how the app is used, and keeps the messages you send.
3. Start WeatherRouting
- Double-click Start WeatherRouting on your desktop.
- Your browser opens WeatherRouting.
- Keep the Terminal window with the text open. Close it to stop WeatherRouting.

A new version
- Close WeatherRouting (close its window).
- Unzip the new version, the same way as the first time.
- In the new folder, double-click Install, then Start WeatherRouting.
Your boats, routes, calculations and sign-in stay where they are: an update only replaces the app. Then you can delete the unpacked folder.
